Growing Food Confidence (GFC) is an evidence-informed nutrition education course designed to build knowledge, awareness and confidence among parents, caregivers, and health professionals in supporting positive feeding experiences for children under 5 years. This course will help to empower them with the knowledge and skills to know what to offer, when to offer it, and how to create positive food experiences that allow children to develop confidence and autonomy with food.

GFC applies experiential, play-based and child-led learning approaches to increase children’s interest, enjoyment and exposure to a wide variety of foods.

The course focuses on:

  • What to offer: providing children with nutritious, developmentally appropriate and culturally diverse food experiences.
  • When to offer: understanding responsive feeding routines, meal and snack structures, developmental readiness and opportunities for repeated exposure.
  • How to offer: using positive, child-centred approaches that encourage exploration without pressure, bribery or restriction.

This course supports families and caregivers to respect children’s individual preferences, experiences and cultural food practices while creating environments that encourage food exploration and confidence.
